Pearce and I are comparing open scientific writing in the humanities and in physical sciences. The results of this two-part study show that it is possible to publish everything related to the research process as soon as possible, as comprehensively as possible, and under an open license, but that there is also still a discrepancy between the scientists’ understanding of open access, the support for open science, and their actual practice of open communication.
